For Starving Shoppers

Do you ever wish:

That you had a gazillion dollars so that you could shop all the time and buy anything and everything your little heart desired?
That you could experience that little thrill of excitement that comes (after you block out how much money you forked over) when the cashier hands you that bag that is ALL YOURS?
That you could duplicate that gratifying feeling you get when you take out all those piles of new clothes and try everything on again in the comfort of your own home?
That you had the security and comfort of never having to worry about choosing between buying a fabulous piece that will last a lifetime or whether you want to eat rice and beans for the next 2 weeks?

Sometimes I miss my bartending nights; walking away with a hefty wad of cash that went solely towards clothing and Starbucks.  Alas, I have graduated college and now have a real job and real bills to pay [sigh].

Maybe you can already tell, but boy do I wish I would get a 1000% raise so that I could experience the joy and happiness that comes with swiping that little plastic card and taking home your glorious finds (I'm too young to marry rich).  Sophie Kinsella said it best: "If everyone could just wear new clothes everyday, I reckon depression wouldn't exist anymore."

While it's always great to dream big (read: I used to dream about having an entire mall with all my favorite stores as my very own personal closet), reality sets in eventually.  If you're like me and have to limit the amount of shopping you do since you most decidedly did not get a raise at work just for the sole purpose of shopping, there are venues out there where you can find great pieces that won't break the bank.  While you have to become a member for most of these sites--it is definitely worth it.

1) Gilt Groupe: I've found this to be the biggest selection of items--with deals on Men's, Women's, Kid's, Home, as well as travel discounts.  Right now they have Tibi (home to some of the most amazing prints!) and House of Harlow 1960 shoes, both of which have some great items in their collection.

2) HauteLook: I've been a member only a short time here, but wasted no time in purchasing great dress by Hype that combines both a feminine and edgy look with an exposed zip front and silk floral skirt.

3) Rue La La: Similar to the sites listed above, Rue La La tends to have more deals and steals for women.

4) Shop It To Me: Slightly more involved, this site lets you customize the alerts you receive by brand and size, so you aren't getting emails for a pair of 7's in a 26 when you're really a 28.

And if you're lucky enough to be freezing your butt off in NYC; check out for some great sample sales on 36th!

Until next time...happy discount shopping!
